Featured Project

Brooklyn Children’s Museum

With support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) the Brooklyn Children’s Museum set out make their collection objects accessible to children in NYC classrooms first, for children in pre-kindergarten. Then, founded on the success of the pre-k project, for students in kindergarten - third grade in the next funding cycle.

What was my role?

  • Thought partnership: I collaborated with Museum staff and consultants to design an engagement strategy that led to gathering data from our most valuable resource: the teachers who possess a profound wealth of knowledge about their students, curriculum, challenges they experience, and their own teaching practices.

  • Advisory: I facilitated community advisory councils (one for pre-k and the other for k-3) designed for the dual purpose of information gathering for project development and to support teachers in incorporating museum education strategies into their practices.

  • Curriculum Design: Collaborated with the teachers to curate and plan a flexible curriculum that meets the changing needs of teachers year to year based on each unique class of students.
